Bunker Surveys

Killybegs Marine Surveyors provides professional, reliable, and comprehensive bunker surveys for vessels and ships used throughout the marine industry.

Marine bunker surveys are used to accurately and independently measure the quantity of marine fuel bunkers. Bunker surveys are usually requested during bunkering stops to prove independently the amount of fuel supplied before and the fuel remaining after a chartering period. The initial bunker quantity can be compared with the ROB quantity (Remaining On Board) to determine how much fuel has been used. We will examine all fuel oils like MGO (Marine gas oil), MFO (Marine Fuel Oil), LSFO (Low Sulphur Fuel Oil), HSFO (High Sulphur Fuel Oil), and LSMDO (Low Sulphur Marine Diesel Oil). We will also record any lube oils and all other bunkers as requested by the client.

At Killybegs Marine Surveyors, we provide complete documentation and reports for each bunker survey to support any claims to quantity disputes.

Bunker Surveys FAQs

What is a bunker survey?

A marine bunker survey examines the quantity of marine fuels on board a vessel and determines how much fuel is used during a chartering or bunkering period. Reports are taken both before and after the charter. The quantity of oil supplied to the vessel and must be in line with the supplied quantity should match the quantity of oil when the vessel is returned.

Why is a bunker survey necessary?

A bunker survey is necessary to make sure that the quantity of fuel is as mentioned in the (BDN) Bunker Delivery Notes and protect all parties from quantity disputes. It is also a valuable loss control tool as the survey will identify the cause of considerable losses of bunker volume.

How much does a bunker survey cost?

The cost of a marine bunker survey will vary across different projects and different vessels. For further details and pricing information please contact Noel and Killybegs Marine Surveyors directly.
